Justin Barcia claimed first place at the AMA Supercross Lites race in Houston, beating out Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Dan Wilson and Blake Baggett.
Barcia was full of excitement after defeating Wilson in the 15 laps of the Lites final. The competitors were neck and neck for most of the race, but Barcia managed to take the lead during the fourth lap and ended up finishing three seconds before Wilson.
“I can’t explain the emotions I’m going through right now, I’m so excited to get this first race out of the way with a win,” Barcia told Cycle News. “It was pretty intense out there, we bumped a couple of times, but I thought it was pretty clean racing.”
Blake Wharton was in third for most of the motorsports race until he met up with Ryan Sipes on the 13th lap. Both drivers tried to go for the same line, but hit the deck. This gave Baggett a great advantage and allowed him to slip into third place. Wharton ended up in sixth place but, while Sipes managed to recover and placed in fourth.
Jason Anderson, making his professional debut, came in seventh and, while Lance Vincent and Matthew Lemoine placed 9th and 10th , respectively.
