American Motorcyclist Association Welcomes Ponca City To AMA Amateur Motocross Calendar
The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) is pleased to announce that the July 21-26 Ponca City amateur motocross race will be an AMA-sanctioned amateur event for 2012.
Promoted by longtime AMA-chartered promoter RPM Sports, Ponca City perennially draws some of the country’s top amateur motocross talent, and for 2012 those racers will be competing under the AMA banner.
“As we saw earlier this year at the Mill Creek Spring Classic, an RPM Sports-promoted event, this promoter continues to demonstrate their ability to organize, host, build and maintain a motocross track at the highest level,” said AMA Director of Racing Joe Bromley. “Plus, the speed at Ponca City is among the best in the country. For these reasons, Ponca will be an excellent proving ground for today’s amateur motocross talent.
“We have all the confidence in RPM Sports that the Ponca City event will become another staple on the AMA calendar,” Bromley said.
Allen McWilliams, RPM Sports founder and a member of AMA Congress, the independent rule-making body that ensures the AMA amateur rulebook is the fairest, most-comprehensive rulebook in the nation, said AMA affiliation also is important to strengthen amateur motocross in his region of the country.
“RPM Sports has been an AMA supporter and AMA promoter since the 1990s,” McWilliams said. “When we got the opportunity to become the promoter at Ponca City, we wanted to make sure it was an AMA event. For us, it is a win-win situation. One of our goals is to grow the AMA in the South Central and Western part of the country. An AMA sanction provides a consistent rules package, the proper class structure and the third-party validation that are valued by racers, sponsors and manufacturers who pay event contingency. We really wouldn’t want to go any other direction.”
