From Aug. 29 to 31, the musical acts will entertain the crowds on hand to celebrate more than a century of top-notch bikes and motorcycle gear. The festival, which takes place near Harley-Davidson’s headquarters in Milwaukee, Wis., is also expected to feature giveaways, contests, bike displays and other forms of entertainment for fans of motorsports.

“The variety of entertainment we’re bringing to Milwaukee for the 110th anniversary celebration reflects the broad appeal of the Harley-Davidson brand,” said Mark-Hans Richer, chief marketing officer of Harley-Davidson. “With three legendary headliners and 60 bands at the Summerfest Grounds, there’s something for everyone. We’re expecting a rockin’ party throughout the weekend.”

Other acts that are scheduled to take the stage include ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Joan Jett and more.

To enter the competition, fans can go online and create their own comic book character. Each one has a back story and their favorite customized Harley-Davidson bike and motorcycle gear, and the entries will be judged on the originality of the hero and storyline, the development of the character and how well he or she promotes the values of freedom and independence, Motorcycle.com reports.

Fans can enter the contest from now until May 31. There will be five winners selected, all of whom will be drawn into the comic series as members of the Road Force team and get a trip to San Diego Comic Con. One lucky grand prize winner also receives their customized Street Bob bike.

“Iron Man, one of Marvel’s most iconic creations, truly embodies the rebellious attitude and power of Harley-Davidson,” said Dino Bernacchi, director of Harley-Davidson marketing communication. “… In 2012, Marvel fans proved their creativity with our first co-created Avengers comic book. Now, we’re raising the stakes by unveiling the winners on one of the world’s largest stages – San Diego Comic Con.”

MotoGP Releases Phone App For 2013 Season

If it seems as if every motorsports series is releasing a phone app, that’s because most of them are. The latest league to get in on the action is MotoGP, which recently unveiled its new addition to the world of phone and tablet programs: the MotoGP Live Experience.

The redesigned app aims to bring fans closer to the track with features like live race timing, real-time tracking and live commentary from the main events. Notifications can also keep users updated on their favorite riders, as alerts about finishes, incidents or other developments can be sent straight to the device.

After the race is done, fans will be able to access video highlights of the most exciting moments, as well as photos, post-race interviews, previews and some behind-the-scenes footage of the MotoGP paddock. Information on each Grand Prix and track is also included to give users an inside look at the setting for each race.

While the app does come at a price, fans of the motorsports series will find it worthwhile. It is currently available for iOS and Android devices and can be accessed in a variety of languages.

Dani Pedrosa clocked the fastest time on the slippery track, expertly handing the new regulation tires and gear on the slick surfaces to finish two-tenths of a second ahead of the next competitor. Despite turning in the top time, Pedrosa was all business after testing was complete. 

“The track wasn’t 100 percent after the rainfall from the past few days, but we were able to ride well,” Pedrosa said. “In the afternoon it rained again, and we used this to perform some laps in the wet. Tomorrow we will continue the work that we have scheduled.”

His teammate Marc Marquez also ended the day with an impressive time, finishing less than four-tenths of a second behind Pedrosa in third place. He was narrowly beaten by defending champion Jorge Lorenzo, who crossed the finish line in between the two Honda riders.

Testing will continue this week at Sepang before moving to Austin, Texas, from March 12 to 14.
